I actually kind of like that, outside of the ugly close/min/max buttons and the scroll bars :P

Coupled together, they do have a certain uniform garrishness.

I consider lack of hardware recalls unethical. They always try to hoard as much money as they can.

    snip

I don't think those are really ethical issues. More like a corporate form of...

It's something also not exclusive to Apple.

does this still have lag/freezing issues?

I know when lion beta was first released it would lag and freeze a lot! also it was very unstable, 80% of the apps would crash constantly.

    Again:

-Intel Chips are not innovation. Its change of suppliers.
    -Magsafe is an actual innovation.
-24" monitors have been around for like 10 yrs.... slappig into an iMac isnt innovation its either ballsy managing or perfect timing
-A webcam.... and a software to list all ur media.... nice not new. ITS A WEBCAM PEOPLE. THATS ALL. IT DOESNT SAVE CHILDREN.
-I thought Sony had a laptop that did this already? Can't confirm.

I can confirm that my Sony Vaio does in fact save children.

For the "why only MBP's and not MB's too"

As said, less press coverage, but also maybe more important is that now there is a gap between the [rosumer line and the consumer line ;)

I didn't say he should get more money. I said CBS will probably bring the show back because it make them so much money.

Reports are Cryer gets $1 million per. These figures include what they make on syndication too.

The that would bring the total between them to $80 million, which leaves everyone else with $20 million. That hardly seems OK or reasonable. There are a lot more people to pay and after that, what's left? I'd tell the guy to take a hike, especially with all the trouble he's caused.

I'll be quite disappointed and most likely skip my first generation of iPhone if they don't integrate 4g antennas. If they're going to delay release (from their normal schedule) we would at least hope to see competitive hardware features with the android phones that come out on a seemingly daily basis.
    See you next year!

*sigh* Every time someone makes this mistake...

Bear in mind that the US prices do not include sales tax of any kind. In your case Australian prices include GST which I believe currently runs at 10%? If you're anything like the UK there may be additional import taxes to pay and the cost of doing business is likely to be higher (everything from shipping costs to salaries affect the price you pay at the checkout). Add in a margain that Apple will calculate to protect themselves from changes in the exchange rate and you'll probably be very close to price parity. Just as in the UK you're paying extra for the product because of the country, not because of Apple.

That's not to say Apple DON'T screw up on exchange rates and gouge the heck out of us non-Americans of course. The Mac Mini being the most recent, and painful, example. But you need to make sure you compare like for like before complaining.

UK VAT is a total Bi#ch

I have to wonder how many people discussing audio quality buy their movies from iTunes vs Blu-Ray.

Just asking since apparently those people are so concerned with getting optimal performance from their media.

Not to take this off topic - but too many people have been duped by all the streaming serves and cable companies to believe they're getting a true HD experience when, in fact, they aren't because of the astronomical bitrate difference between what can be streamed vs delivered by hard media at current.
Not me. Most movie viewing comes from my collection or from Netflix. Netflix BDs in the mail, that is. And over half of the reasoning for that is the audio. I had great audio before great video.

Currently trying to decide how to begin purchasing music again. I've been out of the market for years, except for a couple CDs here and there and about 6 downloads, ever. Should I hunt down 24/96? Should I upgrade my TT and focus on vinyl? Or is CD going to have to be good enough? Possibly even some downloads for the kids' stuff to save cash.

I would just like to mention two things:

    1. Today is yom hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day)
    2. Yesterday, April 30, 2011 is the anniversary of Hitler's death.

Just want to through those two items out there

Your 2nd date appears to be incorrect.

You have to realize one thing. Without market share, company like Apple can not make profit.

Yeah... you have to sell products to make money... but nothing says you have to have the most market share in order to make money.

Let's say Android gets 35% of the market... and Apple only has 25% of the market...

Apple still can sell 20 million iPhones in a quarter and makes a crap-ton of money doing it. That's what I've been saying all along!

Read my other comments here and elsewhere... I HATE market share arguments. It infuriates me every time there is a headline saying "Android beats Apple" and "Android Grows while Apple Stalls"

It's crazy to compare the two anyway... Apple and Google have completely different business models.

My next phone will be an iPhone... I don't care if Android phones outsell the iPhone 2-to-1

You have to realize one thing. Without market share, company like Apple can not make profit.

Apple raked in 6 billion dollars in the first quarter of Q1. That's three months. Oh, by 6 billion I meant in gross. I think that's more than Microsoft made... not sure though.

    http://www.macrumors.com/2011/01/18/apple-reports-record-1q-2011-6-billion-profit-on-26-74-billion-in-revenue/

    Market share =/= profit.

Really? People downing the product already before we even know what it's going to have? Really?
Or are there people just trolling for a response?

...way too premature for a stupid comment like "matte finish or fail". Yeah, they rake in $16 billion a year, I am sure they will be bankrupt before the year is out if they dont have a matte iMac..... LMAO

Uh no. This is a good thing for manufacturers. This means you have to buy another case. The last thing they want is for you to use the old one.

It's not, actually. Every time a change in the phone comes out, the manufacturer has to make new cases to reach those new customers, necessitating new tools/molds/whatever (so more cost on their end). Any manufacturer would prefer that the same case worked for all iPhone4s because then they would only have to spend the manufacturing dollars once to reach every iPhone4 customer. Plus, less confusion when people are buying cases.

Let's just assume it's half music and half movies. That's roughly 142,000 songs and over 3000 movies. At .99 cents per song and $10 per movie, that's $170,000 if he paid for it. And he's complaining about $20 year. Hmmm....

Well, I don't know about this guy specifically. But I own over 20,000 vinyl records. Average 10 tracks each, that's 200,000 songs right there. Not to count at least that many 45's. A collection I've gathered over 50 years. Not to mention 78's, cylinders, etc.

Ever shopped a used music store? Movie store? Goodwill? I have thousands of movies myself, many of which I only paid a dollar or even less for.

I download hundreds of songs from emusic for about half the iTunes price.

It's pretty easy to amass a large collectiion without ever paying retail, and being completely legal.

I can't even begin to count the LP's that have been GIVEN to me over the years by people who went to CD and didn't want them anymore, taking up room. Literally station wagons full -- back when station wagons were HUGE. Cost? How about 0 cents per track, except the time spent playing them into the computer. And I'll be damned if I rebuy all the vinyl I bought through the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Ever have someone GIVE you a few hundred CD's because they're all now in their computer and ipod, and they don't want them taking up the room anymore? Sure, thats probably not legal, however, they made a copy and gave the originals away! It certainly wasn't a legal violation on my part! Are they supposed to put them in the trash? I suppose so.

Any idea how many CD's you can buy out there at 50 cents a pop at second hand stores and garage sales? Somehow, that's still legal!

I know I'm not the only one like me out here! Just saying... you're not considering the possibilities. And there's no way I would EVEr pay to stream my stuff from the internet (there is no "cloud")

It's a symbolic blow to Al Qaeda and a symbolic victory of sorts for the US.

I'm not trying to downplay the event - this is a major incident, one numerous potential consequences, both positive and negative. On the one hand Obama will gain some political capital from this - and deservedly so, as he is commander-in-chief of the armed forces. It is, however, important to remember that the hunt for bin Laden predates his presidency. He can't be expected to take either full blame or credit for the "War on Terror", such as it is.

I'm ultimately rather ambivalent about the affair. Killing a bad man neither undoes what he as done, nor justifies everything we've done over the last decade of pursuing him and his organization. Politicians and partisans will bicker and squabble over who gets the credit, but there really is less credit to go around than the media would have us believe. We'll all wake up tomorrow with the same problems we had before bin Laden died.

Surely every thoughtful person has mixed feelings when reflecting on the events of the last ten years? Let's not get carried away.
